Jim Martin - Reimagining Perennials in Deep South Gardens

The diverse palette available to southern gardeners is not what a northern transplant ever imagined would redefine his idea of perennials. Join Jim Martin, 35+ year gardener and horticulturist as he explores the term "perennial" as it relates to the Lowcountry experience. The picture comes alive as natives meet tropicals in a colorful look as two worlds collide.

 

BIO

Jim Martin has spent his 35 plus years in horticulture growing plants and talking about it to the public. His role as Director of Horticulture included stints at Riverbanks Zoo and Garden, Mepkin Abbey, Brookgreen Gardens and the Charleston Parks Conservancy. Jim decided to take a hiatus from public horticulture in April 2021 when he took a position as head gardener at Long Brow Plantation, a 2500acre estate in the scenic ACE Basin.

 

He has also been farming in in the Lowcountry for the last 10 years, growing vegetables, herbs and cut flowers through Compost In My Shoe, a business he began in 2011.
