Garden Tool Blog - Lighten the Garden Bag Load

I have pinky finger injuries on both hands. It has changed the tools I choose to keep close at all times and how I transport them. Removing two of my favorite tools from my ripstop nylon garden bag and placing them into a sheath has really helped lighten the load for me. In truth, without a specific chore in mind, this sheath is all I carry most of the time.
The dual sheath I chose was a leather one from A.M. Leonard, not top of the line, but very sturdy. I expect it to outlive me. At just over $30, it was more than worth it! Link to Dual Sheath They sell many configurations of this, with tools, without tools, single, double and triple sheaths, and one with a nylon clip on belt too. (Had they sold that then, perhaps I would not have MacGyvered an Ikea luggage belt into action!)
You will find fancy sleek leather versions that belong in magazine shoots for hundreds of dollars, but what I can tell you is that if you use a soil knife, that fancy sheath will be dusty in no time! I do have to regularly dump out accumulated dirt that eludes the weep hole at the bottom.
What is in my sheath? My AM Leonard orange handled soil knife (pictured above) and Stihl secateurs. I confess that my Stihl's have held their edge better and required less maintenance than my Felco pairs ever did, at least until I wrote this -- which inevitably will result in trouble.
